Where we’ve worked: helping advisors across Canada

From Victoria to St. John’s, a look at the communities where we’ve helped financial advisors, planners, wealth managers and insurance advisors get found and chosen, and what working in so many different markets has taught us.

Steady Stream Digital Marketing·6 min read

Steady Stream started in Canada, and we’ve done a lot of work here. Over the years we’ve helped hundreds of financial advisors, financial planners, wealth managers and insurance advisors, in every province and one territory. Some are solo practitioners in towns of 15,000 people. Others are multi-advisor teams in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. Some work in English, some in French, some in both.

The map below shows a sample of the places we’ve worked. It isn’t every community, but it gives a sense of the range.

What working in so many markets teaches you

Marketing a financial practice in Kelowna is not the same as marketing one in Mississauga. The people are different, the competition is different, and the searches people type are different. Working across this many communities has taught us a few things that apply wherever an advisor practises.

Smaller markets can move faster

In a city of 100,000 people there might be a handful of advisors with a well-built website and an active Google Business Profile. That makes it possible to reach the top of local search results relatively quickly. Some of our strongest early results have come from markets like Peterborough, Oshawa and Timmins, where a clear, consistent presence stands out.

Large cities reward specialists

In Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal, competing for “financial advisor” on its own is expensive and slow. Competing for “financial planning for engineers” or “retirement planning for physicians” is a different story. The larger the market, the more a clear niche pays off, in search and in AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini.

Language matters

For advisors in Quebec, New Brunswick and Ottawa, being findable in French is often the difference between showing up and not. French-language pages, ads and posts reach people who would never see an English-only practice.

Seminars work almost everywhere

From Peterborough to Halifax, a well-chosen topic promoted to the right people still fills rooms. What changes from market to market is the topic, the venue and the timing, not the idea.

Some of the results

  • Halifax, Nova Scotia: a practice that now ranks in the top three for “Halifax financial advisor” and on page one nationally for financial planning for engineers and lawyers, and landed a $2M client through search.
  • Vancouver, British Columbia: an advisor who landed a $1M client through search in the first week after launch.
  • Oshawa, Ontario: more than 30 leads from Meta and five from SEO in under three months, and three new clients with about $1.5M in combined assets under management.
  • Peterborough, Ontario: 19 seminar registrations in under a week. The advisor added a second date, and told us it was the only campaign he’d run that brought in real people, not bots.

Results vary by market, niche and how quickly leads are followed up. But these show what’s possible when a practice becomes easy to find and easy to trust.

Communities we’ve worked in

Beyond Canada

The lessons above aren’t specific to Canada. Advisors everywhere are found the same way: people search, they ask AI tools, they check you out on LinkedIn, and they need a reason to reach out. Whether your practice is in Calgary, Chicago or Cardiff, the work is the same: make it obvious who you help, show up where they’re looking, and give them an easy next step.

The details change from place to place: the accounts people hold, the rules your dealer or regulator sets, the topics that fill a room. The fundamentals don’t. A practice that’s clear about who it serves, consistent across its website, search listings and social channels, and easy to contact will outperform one that isn’t, in almost any market.
